长期从事产业经济的教学与研究工作,主要研究领域为产业发展与产业政策、生产力与效率、日本经济与产业发展。近年来,出版产业经济领域的专着5部,在 “China Economic Review”等SSCI 期刊发表英文论文3篇,在《中国工业经济》、《数量经济技术经济研究》、《南开管理评论》等CSSCI期刊发表论文70余篇,其中10多篇获得《人大复印资料》、《高等学校文科学术文摘》等全文转载。受国家工信部、商务部、科技部,以及天津市及滨海新区、河北、海南、吉林、内蒙古、山西、贵州等中央和地方政府部门的委托,完成产业规划、区域产业分析、产业发展战略等研究报告20多份,多份咨询报告获得领导批示。连续数年获得教育部、天津市及南开大学科研优秀成果奖。作为南开大学EDP中心的长期讲座教授,多次为地方政府干部培训班讲授产业集群、产业升级、新兴产业培育等课程,受到学员们的一致好评。作为主管教学科研的副院长,带领本院的产业经济研究团队,与美国、澳大利亚、台湾等多所知名高校进行学术合作,有效地培育起产业效率研究团队,成为南开大学产业经济学的一个重要研究方向。

1. 计量经济学。 为二年级博士研究生开设的课程,讲授经济学研究中用到的计量与数值方法,如时间序列、面板数据、离散选择等等。
2. 微观经济学。 为一年级博士生开设的高级微观经济学课程,主要讲授偏好、需求理论、供给、不确定性和竞争市场上的均衡。
3. 经济数学。为一年级博士生讲授动态规划和最优控制。
4. 实证产业组织。为高年级博士生讲授用来分析不完全竞争市场均衡的实证模型。
曾任国际区域科学协会和北美区域科学协会会长。Hewings教授以城市和区域分析为核心,重点研究区域大尺度模型的开发和应用,在国际专业期刊上发表200余篇学术论文,着书14部,参与80多部着作的编着。因其对美国区域科学研究的突出贡献,在2003年被授予“怀特艾萨德突出学者成就奖”(Walter
Isard Award for Scholarly Achievement),是区域科学界的最高奖,同时国际区域科学协会以其名字命名设立“Geoffrey J.D. Hewings
奖”,以奖励有突出贡献的年轻学者。
Hewings教授在1989年创建美国区域经济学应用实验室(Regional Economics Applications
Laboratory),该实验室不仅在美国区域科学界有较大影响,也同时在英国、西班牙、巴西等国家共建区域科学研究的国际合作机构,使REAL实验室成为国际化的合作交流平台。我校经济与社会发展研究院与Hewings教授达成战略合作意向,与REAL共建REAL
